Uchinaa House is a facility representing a traditional Okinawan residence and buildings on the premises of Ashibinaa Park. During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, the status of a resident determined the size of the house and the number of tatami mats per room. But in 1889, the "Seigenrei law" was abolished. The former Medoruma Residence was built the following year in Yoshiwara (Jagaru), Chatan Town. It was rebuilt and restored on its current location in 2005. It’s a Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property with a partition called “hinpun” facing the entrance of the gate, which was a characteristic of old Okinawan houses. The house gives modern people a glimpse of life in the past.
